Public Policy Goals
Planned Parenthood Delaware Public Policy Agenda
Safe reproductive health care is a human right, and should be accessible and affordable to everyone. Planned Parenthood of Delaware is committed to fighting for policies that provide:
Equal Access to Health Care
- Everyone should have equal access to health care and universal health insurance, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, income, religion, age, citizenship, geographic location or physical challenges.
- Basic reproductive health care options should be made available and accessible, including contraception, emergency contraception, and abortion.
- Everyone should have access to appropriate and meaningful prevention services. Prevention is a vital component of any medical treatment; including prevention of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted disease.
Equal Access to Sex Education
- Comprehensive, age-appropriate sexuality education should be available to all young people.
- Sex education should be medically accurate and evidence-based; and encourage healthy dialogue between parents/caregivers and young people.
Equal Treatment with Dignity and Respect:
- Everyone has a fundamental right to privacy and confidentiality, particularly in regard to issues of reproductive health and justice.
- All people seeking medical treatment should be treated with dignity and respect regardless of their life circumstance and ability to pay.
- Patients should be entrusted with their own medical care decisions. It is the obligation of medical providers, including doctors and pharmacists, to provide the most comprehensive medical information available.
